Helping Young Adults grow into responsible, self-sufficient People
The Case
Since the beginning of Covid lock down measurements, there has been an increase of young adults who report feeling more ‘lonely’ and/or ‘socially regressed’. Some young adults also share the sentiment that many external factors have affected the state of human connection within the past few years such as cost of living, the pandemic, amongst many others. From not having a driver's license to not knowing how to cook, many young people are not learning essential life skills within the same time frame as previous generations.
Insights
1) In 2023, the US Surgeon General released a report that emphasized the benefits of social connection such as a decrease in the risk of premature mortality as well as an increase in healthy behaviors and relief stress.
2) Nearly 1 in 4 adults across the world have reported feeling very or fairly lonely, according to a new Meta-Gallup survey.
3) Studies have shown that people retain more information in a group setting compared to other models of learning.
The Solution
Create a social club that helps young adults develop life skills.
Blooming with Buds
In recent years, research has shown that individuals are more likely to retain new information in group settings. For Skill Buds, the business model relies around users attending recreational classes that teaches attendees important life skills such as cooking, clothes maintenance, etc. Meanwhile, they are allowed to mingle and chat with their fellow buds as they are improving their confidence in being self reliant.
Meeting with Ease
In order to make the onboarding process easier for potential buds, I added an app component to the brand that functioned as a one stop shop for all their needs. Whether it’s meeting other new people or searching for new events to sign up for, the app allows users to access these features without hassle.
Ad Campaign
For the campaign’s creative strategy, I depicted images of items that were symbolic of certain ‘adulting’ skills such as cooking, taxes, etc growing out of a plant pot. Not only does the imagery evoke a sense of humor from the audience but it creates curiosity that would make them want to learn more about the organization.
